The lush paddy fields of Kuttanad, known as the "Rice Bowl of Kerala," make it one of the few places globally where farming happens below sea level.

Krishnapuram Palace

Located 15 kilometres from Krishnendu, the 18th-century Krishnapuram Palace, built during the reign of Travancore's Marthanda Varma, exemplifies traditional Kerala architecture with gabled roofs, dormer windows, and narrow corridors. The palace houses Kerala’s largest mural, the Gajendra Moksham, which measures 14 by 11 feet. This double-storied palace also includes a museum showcasing antique sculptures, paintings, and bronzes. It is located 47 km from Alappuzha, easily accessible by bus from nearby towns.

Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Temple

Only 4 km from Krishnendu, this ancient serpent shrine, run by a Brahmin family headed by a priestess, is a renowned pilgrim destination. Dedicated to the Serpent God Nagaraja, the temple is believed to have the form of Hari (Lord Vishnu) and the spirit of Lord Shiva. Devotees believe that barren women who visit the temple are blessed with children, and a special turmeric paste from the temple is believed to cure diseases like leprosy.

Chettikulangara Bhagavathy Temple

A 12-kilometre drive from Krishnendu takes you to the temple famous for its Kettukazhcha festival. It features grand processions of chariots, decorated effigies, and cultural performances. The festival typically occurs in February or March and attracts large crowds of devotees.

Ambalappuzha ( Pilgrim Centre)

The Sri Krishna Temple in Ambalappuzha, located 21 km from Krishnendu, is one of Kerala's most famous temples. Known for its traditional Kerala architecture, the temple is renowned for Palpayasam, a sweet milk porridge offered to the deity. The temple is the birthplace of the famous 16th-century art form Ottan Thullal, first performed by poet Kunjan Nambiar. It hosts a grand festival in March or April.

Karumadi

Located 25 km from Krishnendu, Karumadi is a village known for its Karumadi Kuttan, a black granite Buddha statue dating back to the 9th or 10th century.

Punnapra

Punnapra, located 25 km from Krishnendu, is historically significant for its role in the 1946 Punnapra Vayalar Communist uprising. The village honours the martyrs who fought in this battle, with memorials located in Alappuzha near Kalarcode.

Kuttanad

Located 27 kilometres from Krishnendu, Kuttanad is the heart of Kerala's backwaters and is famous for its wealth of paddy fields. Chavara Bhavan

Located 36 km from Krishnendu, Chavara Bhavan, accessible only by boat, is the ancestral home of the blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara. This spiritual resort draws thousands of devotees seeking blessings. The house features a historically significant, 250-year-old light, preserved in its original form.

Edathua Church

Edathua church, established in 1810, is located 16 kilometres from Krishnendu and is dedicated to St. George. It is believed that prayers at the church can heal mental disorders and various physical ailments. During the annual feast held in May, pilgrims from all over South India visit the church.

Ambalappuzha Sree Krishna Temple

Located 20 km from Krishnendu, this temple is known for its Palapayasam, a daily offering of sweet milk porridge. The temple also hosts the Palipana ritual, performed once every 12 years. The inner walls display paintings of the Dasavatharam (the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu).
