Ayurvedic Treatment for Depression

According to Ayurvedic science, there are two main causes of depression-Imbalance in the three doshas such as Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Lack of awareness of one’s deeper, inner Self.

Most depression cases are mostly attributed to Kapha imbalance. Initially, the brain’s electrochemistry goes into an erratic overreaction by vata imbalance. These imbalances trigger a loss of enzymatic activity in the metabolism that establish a pitta imbalance. Kapha acts by trying to let everything down, bringing heaviness, darkness, and stagnation to mind. Eventually, the mind interprets this chain reaction as a negative message of hopelessness and leads to depression.

The ayurvedic methods of treating depression include treatments like Snehapanam, (A pre-requisite module for cleansing treatments) Vamanam (Emesis) Shirodhara, and Thakradhara. Shirolepanam, etc. Ayurveda offers very effective individualised treatments for depression without any negative effects and a promising possibility of prevention. It promotes higher levels of psychological health and mindset.
